Posts from both CakePHP and the Mambo teams announce that the new version 5 of the popular Mambo CMS will be based on the CakePHP Framework. Mambo says:
After a great deal of research the Mambo team has decided to utilize the CakePHP framework for Mambo 5. CakePHP is a rapidly evolving, mature, and feature rich PHP framework. The project is backed by an official Foundation (cakefoundation.org) much like the Mambo project itself. We believe this is an important criterion as it helps assure the project will remain active and community minded. CakePHP also has a growing community, a software forge (cakeforge.org), and a nice body of documentation.
And CakePHP says:
We are excited that Mambo recognizes and embraces the extensibility of CakePHP and we are sure they will continue to produce a powerful CMS. We anticipate some great input from the Mambo team as they build out version 5, but rest assured our goals for CakePHP will remain the same.
The Mambo team has already begun work with the CakePHP conversion; a Mambo 5 installer pre-alpha prototype has already been developed. For more info you can read the full announcement at the Mambo site.
